Auctions designated with the icon to the right have the potential to become duels
An auction is considered a duel when it goes into Contention
Contention is defined as an auction where 15% of bids are placed by a bidder in one of the top 3 tiers in the duel Leaderboard.
Bidders in duel auctions can win bounties and get bids back in addition to the product
Bounties are paid out by AnniesBid, not bidders
Bounties can be divided and shared with others - winners can reward their posse!

All Bidders at AnniesBid may duel
Top-ranked bidders must win at least one duel per month to keep their bidding name.

Bidders in the top three tiers must win one duel that enters contention at least once per month against another bidder in the same tier or higher.
Contention is where two or more top tier bidders place at least 15% of the bids each, regardless of rank.

If an auction ends without two top bidders (see Leaderboard  ) placing 15% of the bids, no duel has occurred and the bidders still risk losing their names.

If two equally matched bidders in the same tier in the Leaderboard contend by bidding at least 15% of the bids, the winner takes the auction item, the bounty of all other equal or higher ranked bidders, and keeps his/her name

If a bidder from a lower tier wins against a bidder in a higher tier in the Leaderboard , and both bidders bid at least 15% of the bids, the winning (lower-tier) bidder takes the auction item and the other bidder's bounty.

If a bidder from a higher tier wins against a bidder in a lower tier, and both bidders bid at least 15% of the bids, the losing, lower-ranked bidder gets bids back (See Leaderboard for details). The winning bidder takes the auction item, but has not defended his/her name

Bidders below the top three tiers in the Leaderboard  may also compete to win the bounty. Without contention, these auctions proceed like normal auctions and no bounties are awarded.

Most duel auctions have reserves. If an auction has a reserve, it will be displayed on the detail page. No product is won and no bounty awarded unless the minimum reserve price is met or exceeded. Please consult AnniesBid 201 to understand what happens when the reserve is not met.
